A local hospital is under severe pressure today as the number of patients on trolleys spiked after the weekend. There were lengthy delays at Portiuncula University Hospital this morning with 16 patients waiting for a bed. Ten patients were left waiting in the Emergency Department while six were on trolleys elsewhere in the hospital.
Meanwhile, there are 26 patients waiting for a bed at Sligo University Hospital, 12 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and two at Cavan General Hospital. University Hospital Limerick is the busiest hospital in the country today with 89 people waiting for a bed while University Hospital Galway is the next busiest with 48.
