Roscommon hospital has seen a threefold increase in its outpatient waiting lists in the last seven years.
That's according to information published by the Irish Hospital Consultants Association which says that patients in the West and North-West are facing excessive delays in care.
The IHCA says that hospitals in the Saolta University Health Care Group have some of the worst waiting lists in the country.
The association says this is due to lack of capacity, and a shortage of consultants.
Figures published by the IHCA show that in January of 2015, there were just over 2,000 people on outpatient waiting lists at Roscommon hospital, but that's now risen to 6,700 in January of this year, a 221% increase.
Sligo hospital has seen a rise of 62% over the same timeframe rising from almost 12,000 in 2015, to 19,400 last month.
Portiuncula hospital has a 42% increase in its waiting lists and Galway University hospitals has an outpatient waiting list now of almost 57,000, the largest of any single hospital in the entire country.
The Hospital Consultants Association says the government needs to progress practical plans to extend hospital capacity and consultant staffing in the region without delay].
