Medical staff are urging those with symptoms to stay at home, with hand washing one key factor in stopping the spread.

All hospitals in the west and northwest are being significantly impacted by a spike in flu cases.

There are 46 flu cases in Galway University Hospital, along with 36 in Sligo, and 25 in Portiuncula in Ballinasloe.
