A local IFA representative believes the closure of banks in rural communities has led to a lack of trust in the sector.
A new study by the Irish Banking Culture Board found almost 70% of farmers feel existing services fall well below expectations.
Farm Business National Chair Rosemary McDonagh is not surprised by the low confidence rates for the sector with 97% of farmers suggesting financial institutions are not adopting a customer centric approach.
Speaking to Shannonside FM the Galway native says farmers are under huge financial pressure at the moment and banks must meet the needs of farm families.
"If we look at the farmers and at this time when famers need probably interaction with banks over the point of view in cashflow and the huge rise in cost in fuel and Fertilizer."
"In general they are finding it more difficult to interact with their bank, the way they would have in the past. One of the findings as well were to ask the banks to look at there customer focus."
