There were sharp exchanges in the Dáil this morning.
Sligo/Leitrim's Marc MacSharry and Roscommon Galway Deputy Denis Naughten backed the coalition, arguing an election won't solve any problems.
Meanwhile Deputies Michael Fitzmaurice and Marian Harkin voted no confidence in the Government.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show in the hours before the vote, Deputy Fitzmaurice says he cannot not support a government that includes the current Green Party.
'The pup is pulling the dogs tail and the green party are actually in the driving street at the moment and I would be glad if there was election where they may be out of power because unfortunately the green party is doing a lot of harm to the rural economy and the fabric of rural life and I cannot stand up and press a button that will keep Eamon Ryan in power.'
