Longford County Councillors have agreed to extend the Freedom of Longford to a local investigative journalist.
At today's meeting, councillors unanimously agreed to offer the honour to Longford Journalist Shaunagh Connaire due to the impact her career has had internationally.
The motion proposed by Cathaoirleach Peggy Nolan seeks to recognise the extensive work of the video journalist in the area of human rights and investigative journalism.
The Longford native has won a series of awards for her work around the world and is currently working as the Director at Clooney Foundation for Justice founded by Amal and George Clooney.
The motion was supported by Councillors Gerry Warnock and Gerry Hagan who praised the breadth and scope of the local journalists work.
