Longford Westmeath TD and Minister of State Peter Burke is seeking approval for a major overhaul of planning laws

The Minister for Local Government is hopeful new legislation will end frivolous objections being made through the planning process.

Longford-Westmeath TD Peter Burke is to seek government approval for a major overhaul of planning laws to reduce red tape.

The proposal includes reducing the stages at which a judicial review can be sought and new limits on the entities that can bring legal challenges.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, the Mullingar native feels people who serially object to projects are causing harm to communities across the country.
