A local legal expert is urging victims of AI Deepfakes not to suffer in silence. Karen Costello is a Law Lecturer at the Technological University of Shannon with a specialty on digital legislation. A 'Deep Fake' is where AI tools use existing images or videos and significantly alter them to portray a fabricated scene.
In many incidents this technology has created realistic images or movies of people in a range of compromising activities such as sexual acts or illegal behaviour. Speaking to Shannonside FM News, Karen says Irish legislation has not caught up with the advances in AI technology.
