A local MEP has called on the dairy industry to provide direct financial supports to farmers who undertake capital projects. MEP for Midlands-Northwest Ciaran Mullooly met with senior management at Lakelands Co-Op this week as part of ongoing talks. He outlined the issues the European Parliament and Agri Committee will be addressing in the coming months.
This includes new legislation on animal transport, the Nitrates derogation, and the future CAP budget. Speaking following the meeting, he urged the dairy industry to 'step up to the plate' for farmers:
