Local MEP criticises constituency colleague over EU Mica fact finding mission

A local MEP has accused a fellow constituency member of breaking parliamentary procedure and endangering an EU fact finding mission into the Mica scandal in the North West.

The accusation comes from Midlands North West MEP Luke 'Ming' Flanagan and revolves around Fine Gael's Colm Markey.

The issue refers to the recent European Parliament mission to Donegal to meet with home and business owners affected by the mica scandal.

The defective concrete blocks used in buildings across the North-West have seen hundreds of people leave their homes due to serious structural concerns.

The visit of MEPs from Spain, Estonia and Latvia to the area was spearheaded by MEP Luke 'Ming' Flangan, with Sinn Fein's Chris Macmanus and Fine Gael MEP's Maria Walsh and Colm Markey in attendance.

Speaking to Let's Talk today, Ming accused Colm Markey of breaching Parliamentary procedures by releasing information to the press, despite what he says was a ruling that no statements be made during the visit.

The statements, which had been sent to Shannonside FM news on Monday, described the arrival of the delegation and their work to look into the defective concrete block issue as well as the Government's response.

MEP Flanagan says that the mica crisis is not over and other counties in the region could be at risk in the next ten years:
