Shannonside MEP Ciaran Mullooly says he locked his social media account this week because of personal abuse he received. It was over his Independent Ireland party joining the Renew Group in the European Parliament, as opposed to the European Conservatives and Reformists.
Some people claimed it meant Independent Ireland want car-free streets and men to be allowed use women's public toilets. Mullooly, who was elected as an MEP for the first time last month, says the backlash did affect him:
