The Minister for Public Health has played down suggestions that key cardiac services for the north-west may be centralised in County Galway.
A Cath Lab at Sligo university hospital closed last week, after the private operator pulled out of its contract.
A leaked draft report of suggestions on the reconviction of cardiac services in the region last month suggested that a new centralised Cath Lab for several counties would be located at University Hospital Galway.
The Minister for hHalth last week confirmed he would be meeting local TDs to discuss alternative options for Cath lab facilities in the region.
Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan is hopeful when the report is eventually published, it will include services for the Shannonside region:
"We haven't seen the report, and it's far too early, to talk about the report because we haven't seen it.
That was a draft looking for suggestions, it was leaked, indeed it was sent to me, in my office and I would hope that whatever would happen there will be an opportunity that Sligo will have a service, that will provide safety and will be safe for the service users in Sligo-Leitrim and the north west."
