Local political analyst gives reaction to Taoiseach's meeting in White House

When discussing the Ukraine/Russia peace negotiations, Micheál Martin compared it to the peace process in Ireland in the 90s and those who drove it.

The US led peace talks on the war in Ukraine bear very little similarity to the peace process in Northern Ireland according to a local political analyst. Politicians and commentators are today reacting to the Taoiseach's comparison of a former Taoiseach and TD from the Shannonside Region, to Donald Trump at yesterday's meeting in the Oval Office. When discussing the Ukraine/Russia peace negotiations, Micheál Martin compared it to the peace process in Ireland in the 90s and those who drove it.

He paid tribute to President Trump in relation to negotiations and described how former Fianna Fail Taoiseach and local man Albert Reynolds had also been criticised for his work seeking peace. Political analyst and Strategy Director with Carr Communications Johnny Fallon says Donald Trump is approaching peace negations in a vastly different way than John Hume or Albert Reynolds. He believes the key difference is that when it came to the Northern Ireland Peace Process, those involved took significant political and career risks in driving it forward:
