Local Oireachtas members and other public representatives will meet with the Divine Word Missionaries over the future of Donamon Castle. It follows a public meeting last night to discuss a Department of Integration proposal to expand refugee accommodation at the site. There are currently 26 Ukrainians staying at the former Cuisle facilities in Donamon, but locals fear a new agreement would open the door for an IPAS centre at the site. Following last night's meeting, Fr Tim Lehane, Provincial of the Divine Word Missionaries, said the order wouldn't sign a new agreement with the Department. Speaking to Shannonside News, local resident Padraig Whyte said he was disappointed more councillors weren't in attendance:
A report was previously commissioned into possible future uses for the castle and that was put forward by local representatives last night. It was agreed that members of the order would meet with local politicians and Roscommon Leader Partnership to discuss the next steps. Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane says it's now crucial to gain some clarity around the Department's proposal:
