The service had received promises from former Minister of Health, Simon Harris, that they would have a voice in the planning of new services in the facility.

Elected representatives across the midlands are being urged to support the addition of further hospice beds as part of the St. Joseph's Care Centre refurbishment and upgrade.

Plans underway by the HSE currently call for the provision for just one palliative care bed at the Longford facility for patients undergoing hospice care.

Longford Hospice Homecare is calling on elected officials at all levels to support the development of an additional bed, accommodation and shared kitchen facilities at the Dublin road service.

According to the service, the previous Minister for Health Simon Harris made assurances that Longford Hospice Homecare would be included in the development of the facility.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound News, Chair of Longford Hospice Homecare Dan Rooney, says that the service is simply looking for adequate infrastructure to help the people of Longford in what can be a difficult time for families.
