An Post officials will be invited to a special meeting of Roscommon County Council this week to discuss changes to the county town's postal service. It comes following an emergency meeting of local councillors and Oireachtas members in Gleeson's Townhouse last night. Earlier this week it was confirmed Roscommon Post Office would become a contractor-run service. The national postal service has described the move as a significant business opportunity for prospective postmasters in the town.
The announcement has been met with anger and frustration locally, however, with public representatives vowing to fight the decision. A special meeting of Roscommon County Council will take place this Thursday evening to discuss the matter. Speaking to Shannonside News, Cllr Anthony Waldron said the matter would be raised in the Dáil later this week:
