Local politicians have welcomed Just Transition funding of over €6 million in funding for a total of 22 sites in the midlands. Locally, some of the projects to receive funding are Athlone Castle, Lough Key Forest Park in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, and a new amphitheatre in Lanesboro, Co. Longford. Fianna Fáil Senator Eugene Murphy said there was more investment on the way for the region:
Meanwhile, Fine Gael Senator Aisling Dolan said it would boost the local economy, particularly the tourism sector.

The funding was also welcomed by Longford TD Joe Flaherty and Senator Michéal Carrigy.
