A local secondary school principal has moved to reassure parents and students that the leaving cert predicted grading system here will work.
Des Cullen is the principle at Moyne Community School in Co Longford.
He says teachers have been asked to calculate grades based on the Leaving Cert course completed up until the date of school closures - not just previous test results.
His comments follow consternation in Northern Ireland upon the release of the GCSE results there and a U turn by the UK government on the matter.
But Mr Cullen says the difference here is that the Irish Department of Education will also have the benefit of previous state exams to look back on so that the results of any brighter cohort of students won't be suppressed into any "bell curve" of expected grades.
