Gardaí and INTERPOL have searched a property in Longford as part of an international operation targeting West African Crime Gangs.
Operation JACKAL is a joint operation between the European law enforcement agency INTERPOL and police services across 21 countries.
Gardaí searched properties in Longford, Dublin and Wicklow, with arrests made under organised crime, economic and money laundering legislation.
36 people have been arrested in Ireland in the last number of months including in Longford, Dublin, Meath, Limerick and Kerry.
Operation JACKAL has been targeting West African Crime Gangs such as the Black Axe, who have been described as one of the most far-reaching and dangerous organised crime groups in the world.
Over €400,000 of stolen funds have been recovered so far in Ireland from the groups who operate numerous scams and economic criminal enterprises.
According to Gardaí. electronic devices seized during recent investigations across Europe, Africa and Asia have shown that these Criminal Organisation are operating from Ireland.
The Irish leg of the investigation is being led by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, with Detective Superintendent Michael Cryan warning the public that they will be prosecuted for allowing others to launder money in personal bank accounts.]
