Local Property Tax in County Roscommon is set to remain unchanged over the next five years following a Council meeting yesterday. Local councillors can increase or reduce it, by up to 15 per cent, from the basic rate set nationally. A proposal brought forward by Independent Councillor Tom Crosby to maintain the rate over the next five years was passed by the majority of councillors at the meeting.
South Roscommon Cllr Tony Ward brought forward a counter proposal that the rate should be retained for a 1 year period but that was defeated. There was a suggestion at the meeting that Local Property Tax could double over the five year period, however Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice has ruled out that happening:
