A local publican believes price increases among city hotels and pubs meant the Budgets return to 13.5 percent VAT for Hospitality was no surprise.
The Edgeworthstown business owner believes the negative media attention garnered by some elements of the hospitality industry has had a knock on the rural trade.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound today following the announcement of Budget 2023, the publican says the return to the higher rate of VAT was expected after the last year:
''It was probably no surprise with the attention the city pub and city Hoteliers were getting in the press with the fees they were charging and so it was very hard to keep that at 9% , as I said the city dwellings weren't helping things.''
