The Manager of Athlone's Community Radio Station has signalled her intention to take the currently empty seat on Westmeath Council.
Irena Djak Cvetkovic made the statement on her Facebook page this week following the resignation of councillor Jamie Moran.
The sudden and immediate resignation of former councillor Jamie Moran has created a three person race for his seat, with former TD Boxer Moran and former local Councillor Paul Hogan also in the running.
Irena Djak Cvetkovic moved to Ireland over 20 years ago from Serbia, where she served as a local councillor at age 23.
According to her statement, her years involved with the Non profit Athlone radio station have left her with an understanding of local issues and the community.
Her efforts to join the council will be supported in the chamber by Green Party Councillor Louise Heavin.
Speaking on her plans if co-opted, the Athlone woman says, as an Independent councillor, she will give representation to all Irish, non Irish, migrants and refugees in the area.
