Minister of State Jack Chambers met with local representatives last Friday evening to discuss the proposed closure of the Roscommon Post Office. Oireachtas members, local councillors and other stakeholders raised their concerns at the meeting in the Hodson Bay Hotel. An Post announced plans last month that the service will be run by a contractor and most likely move from its current location on The Square.
The announcement has been met by widespread criticism from locals and an online petition was set up last week to reverse the decision to close the landmark building. Roscommon-Galway TD Denis Naughten was in attendance at the meeting and confirmed that Minister Chambers will raise concerns with An Post management within the next fortnight:
