A local retired SIPTU worker says the HSE must pay pensions to Roscommon and Leitrim members immediately.
Padraig Peyton was commenting after the HSE failed to meet with SIPTU members about pension delays in Leitrim yesterday.
Members of SIPTU have previously written to the HSE Head of Superannuation seeking payment of arrears in pensions for retired health service staff.
The former local Honorary President says the delays are made all the more serious due to the rising cost of living.
"Times have gotten tougher, money has gotten shorter, the bills have gotten greater. There has been no pay increase to match. Traditionally parents were the ones that youngsters turned to in tough times and I know my own parents tried to help me out as best they could and I'd like to help my children as best I can. If the arrears were paid, it could be a couple of pound that you could help them out with".
