Dozens of schools across the Shannonside region will reopen on Monday after being closed during the cold snap. Some were closed for up to four days after low temperature and ice warnings were in place. The alerts were lifted at 12 noon and mild temperatures of up to 14 degrees are forecast for next week.
Carrick-on-Shannon Community School has been closed for the past three days, but will reopen on Monday. A retired teacher from the school, Joe Bambricke, doesn't expect the closures will have had a significant impact on local students:
Meanwhile, a Roscommon councillor says the recent cold snap has had a major impact on business in the county. Fianna Fáil Councillor Marty McDermott said icy conditions made it difficult for people to do their shopping in Roscommon.
