A local senator says a new public bus route between Athlone and Ballinasloe is crucial.
Aisling Dolan says while commercial services operate from town to town she'd like to see the establishment of a route that would incorporate more villages.
The Fine Gael representative raised the matter in the Seanad this week where she stated there is a demand for the service in places like Pearses, Moore , Drum and Summerhill areas.
She believes the route should also connect with local facilities.
''It would link to the train station for example or to our hospital. So the response at the moment is that they're reviewing this because again, I suppose it's around the demand for it. I know in the local community like Moore, the community council have been asking for this, I know that around Pearses, like there's demand for that because so many people and students would be using the club and so on. They will be reviewing it from what I understand in a year or so, I would like to sort of see that we would have something like a service like this in a shorter time period.''
