A Local senator has called on the Government to provide guaranteed supports for Men Shed's across the country.
Speaking in the Seanad yesterday, Senator Michael Carrigy urged his colleagues to support his call for new financial supports for the community organizations.
According to Senator Carrigy, Men's Sheds across the country played a significant role in tackling rural isolation as a result of the Covid -19 pandemic.
He's calling for Government to allocate funds for an annual maintainence and sustainability grant, supports for the establishment of new chapters and help for existing Men's Sheds who are facing difficulty with property rates issues.
''There's an opportunity here for me to say to say thank you, it was a difficult time for for everybody as it was, but I think that the Killoe men's shed and indeed the men's sheds throughout the country did huge work to combat rural isolation. A number of weeks ago we met the Irish Men's Shed Association over the road looking for support from Government for the sheds and I just want ask that this will be taken into account when discussions are taking place.''
