Micheál Carrigy says that prosecution of those who don't pay the licence is the last thing the Government want.

The Government has been discussing the latest funding model for RTE. The TV licence fee will remain, and will be supplemented by direct Exchequer funding. Local Senator and Oireachtas Media Committee Member Micheál Carrigy says that prosecution of those who don't pay the license is the last thing the Government want.

As part of the plan An Post is to receive €6 million to help increase collection rates. Senator Carrigy, a postmaster in Ballinalee in Longford, believes the licence model itself needs to be reformed:
