A Local Senator has called on the FAI to explain the lack of infrastructure available for grass roots football in the Shannonside Region. The association appeared before the Oireachtas Sport Committee yesterday to answer why Jonathan Hill's salary breached the terms agreed with the government in a Memorandum of Understanding. The Chief Executive received payments in lieu of holidays not taken, in a move that was compared to measures taken by a previous regime.
Using his time to address the committee, Senator Micheál Carrigy described how poor management and governance has lead to both the public and policitcal representatives having little faith in the FAI. Addressing Jonathon Hill and Director of Grass Roots Football Ger McDermott, the Ballinalee based Senator highlighted how many local clubs are spending significant sums to rent grounds for training and matches:
