Senator Eugene Murphy says he faces a 'tough battle' to retain his seat in the Seanad elections - as he fights to save his political career. The Roscommon man has been an elected politician for the past 40 years, as a councillor, TD and senator.
He quit Fianna Fail in November and ran in the general election as an Independent in Roscommon-Galway, but lost out. He's now running in the Seanad election as an Independent - and has been rating his chances of success:
Meanwhile, another Roscommon native is also looking for a Seanad seat. Hilary Beirne who is the New York City St Patrick’s Day Foundation founder and originally from Co. Roscommon, is seeking to take one of three seats on the National University of Ireland Panel.
