A Roscommon Galway Senator thinks farmers are willing to make changes to bring down emissions.
Senator Eugene Murphy says a lot of negotiations will have to take place between Government and farming communities to compensate them.
The Government's set a target of 25 per cent for the agriculture sector.
Senator Murphy says he would have preferred a lower target:
"Well it's a difficult challenge. I had a lot of negotiations last week with farmers, I also met with the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue. I made it clear with everybody that I did not expect it would be at 25%. I would have probably preferred it be at 24%. But having said that, I think farmers are willing to rise to the challenge, there will be challenges in this."
