A local Senator is urging students and parents to voice their concerns if they are struggling with the cost of going to college.
Aisling Dolan's comments come as the Government has released a paper that outlines ways to improve a student's education experience in this year's budget.
The cost of education option paper sets out choices for students by cutting fees and raising the student grant.
A contribution fee will now be reduced by 50% for families earning less than €62,000 and a new student contribution grant of €500 will be offered to family incomes between €62,000 and €100,000.
The Fine Gael Senator believes it's vital for families to have their say in further measures to reduce expenses:
'Particularly Minister Simon Harris is looking at the cost of education option paper and is looking to key stakeholders to get feedback on this. It is crucial that the Minister is looking at this because we want to be able to support students and families as it is a particularity anxious time for school leavers going into college.'
