A local opposition TD is heavily criticising Government over their decision to appoint a former senior minister to a top UN position.
Former Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone has been appointed to the paid position of special envoy for freedom of expression in the United Nations.
The job was not advertised and it's claimed the Taoiseach was not informed.
According to Sinn Fein TD Sorca Clarke, there was no transparency or application process for the appointment.
Katherine Zappone will be entitled to €15,000 stipend for two years, a top up to her ministerial pension, a secretary and travel expenses.
