A local Sinn Fein TD believes today's motion of no confidence has rattled the Government.
Deputy Martin Kenny says the motion put down by his party has intensified the pressure on the coalition to step up to mark.
He believes side line deals made with Independent TD's in the run up to the vote will make no difference to the big issues like housing, health and childcare.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show the Sligo Leitrim TD says many backbenchers are worried over their seats going forward.
''The Taoiseach's own backbenchers were meeting in a kind of a semi secret meeting last week to discuss policy because they were so worried about their own seats come the next election. And what we were doing was putting the squeeze on to make sure that they know that that election is coming hard and fast and that they need to sit up and listen to the people and recognise that there are serious issues that need to be dealt with by Government and they have failed to do. So [our motion] certainly has backfired.''
