Longford Westmeath TD Peter Burke was hospitalised last night as a precaution after he became unwell while speaking in the Seanad.
The Minister of State was speaking during the committee stage debate on the Water Environment Bill, when he explained he was having issues with his eyesight.
He took a short break but the house was subsequently suspended while he received further medical treatment. He was then attended to by paramedics and taken by ambulance to St James's hospital where he underwent medical tests according to a Fine Gael spokesperson 'as a precaution'.
