A local TD believes now is the time for a general election.
Deputy Marian Harkin's comments following Taoiseach Leo Varadkar's shock resignation earlier in this week. The Sligo-Leitrim TD says she cannot see how a new leader of Fine Gael will be able to rescue and refocus the Government and earn the confidence of the people. The Independent representative continued by arguing that the political landscape will be fully focused on local and European elections, and nothing of substance will be achieved.
She concluded by saying that it is time for a new government, and a general election should be called.
