Minister Hildguard Naughten says there is no threat to search and rescue services in the North West arising out of a funding shortfall at Sligo Airport.
The airport, which serves as a base for search and rescue services, was required to carry out works at the airport to enable its licence from the Aviation Authority to remain valid.
Local TD Marian Harkin says that despite assurances before Christmas, it has yet to receive any funds. and it has, in fact, paid for works required by the Aviation Authority out of its operational budget.
Responding to Deputy Harkin, in the Dail, Minister Naughton said there was no threat to the service and that her officials were in close contact with Sligo Airport Authority.
While welcoming this update, Deputy Harkin insists that it was now time that a definite funding commitment was given.
