A local TD is calling on deputies in the Sligo/Leitrim area and those further afield to support a motion to scrap planned toll road hikes.
Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny has described them as unfair and believes they will put further pressure on commuters and transport companies in the North West who rely on the motorway system.
They're due to go up in January by the maximum amount allowed on roads nationwide.
In the Dail late last week, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar confirmed that Ministers are looking at ways to defer or mitigate the increases.
Deputy Martin says that private companies operating the toll services are already making millions in profits.
Speaking on 'Let's Talk' today, the Sinn Fein Deputy says the government must come together with the opposition and Independents on this issue:
We've had several motions over the past 12 months or more where the government have accepted the motion and said we agree with the principle of it and will accept it.
Sometimes unfortunately they put in a counter amendment and makes it mean nothing and turns it upside down.
We would hope that in this occasion that they would support it.
The Taosieach and the Tanáíste, and indeed many others TDs and backbenchera from all sides of the house would accept that this is not the way forward.
