A local TD is calling for investment for road upgrades and maintenance to reduce road traffic collisions.
Sligo-Leitrim TD, Martin Kenny, said that a €150m cut from the road maintenance budget should be restored immediately to enhance secondary roads and collision black-spots. The Deputy also said that the government must prioritise resourcing of the Roads Policing Unit within An Garda Síochána to enforce further road safety.
TD Martin Kenny has expressed sorrow for the 184 deaths reported on Irish roads in 2023, as well as the eight fatalities which have already occurred in the first days of the new year.
