A Leitrim TD is calling for the establishment of a dedicated transport police unit.
It comes as figures provided to Shannonside FM show over 100 complaints of anti social behaviour were made to Iarnród Eireann locally in 2022.
Over half of those complaints were regarding disruptive behaviour, including noisy passengers or those playing loud music.
Other issues highlighted included reports of intimidation, harassment and alleged assault.
Deputy Martin Kenny is Sinn Féin spokesperson on communications and transport.
Speaking to Let's Talk earlier, he says that incidents of anti-social behaviour are not just confined to urban areas:
'We have to recognise there is a serious problem across the country on all modes of transport.
The unions representing the train and bus drivers have been calling for many years now for adequate security measures to be put in place.
Staff are often attacked and verbally abused on the services, indeed other commuters who use the service are afraid when rows or fights break out among them.'
