A local TD has strongly criticised President Michael D. Higgins for his recent flash flooding comments.
Roscommon-Galway TD, Michael Fitzmaurice has urged more to be done for the Irish citizens facing flash flooding in the past week.
Fitzmaurice says that President Higgins, during his tenure as a Government minister, had notably signed the Habitats Directive into Irish law in 1997.
He also believes that the President should apologise to the people of Ireland for laying the foundation for Europe to be able today to restrict our use.
Deputy Fitzmaurice added that the Taoiseach and Tánaiste should go to Europe and undo the mess that has started with the signing of this law.
