Up to 40,000 Irish farmers in mountain areas could lose out on payments from the EU, according to an Independent TD.
Michael Fitzmaurice will raise the issue in the Dáil today, along with other independent deputies.
They fear a proposed change in the Common Agricultural Policy will mean farmers with peat-soils could lose out on vital payments. Deputy Fitzmaurice says the move needs to be scrapped before the new CAP budget takes effect in 2023.
