A local TD has issued a warning after his father was robbed by men in the Ballynacarrigy area on Monday afternoon.
Robert Troy has revealed details of the incident after a man came to his parents' home near the Longford-Westmeath border looking for directions to Edgeworthstown.
The Fianna Fail TD says that when his father stepped out on the street to give him directions, he was subsequently robbed.
He claims that the man was in a white van and another man was driving the vehicle.
The Longford-Westmeath representative said in a Facebook post that he is concerned that "my parents were targeted as my father would be known in the area for giving directions and having local knowledge and also they would be known to be elderly and living on their own.
So please be careful."
Gardai have also confirmed that they are investigating an incident that occurred at 2pm yesterday in the area in which a sum of cash was taken.
