The stitching of several counties into one Dáil constituency should be abandoned according to a local TD.
Independent TD for Sligo Leitrim, Marc MacSharry made the comments as a boundary commission is set to redraw the constituencies this year.
It's thought as many as 19 extra TDs will be added to represent the increased population in Ireland.
However, Deputy MacSharry does not take issue with two counties pooled together, like Longford-Westmeath.
But he says any more than two will lead to voters becoming disenfranchised.
'There's no issue with two counties being together.
Sligo/Leitrim have often been together, Longford/Westmeath, Longford Roscommon and so on.
The issue is around slices of constituencies being taken off and being stuffed in unnecessarily.
But a lot of the electorate have been telling us that they find that discommoding and they feel disenfranchised.
In many incidents they don't feel they can' identify appropriately with the representative elected.'
