A local TD has been officially appointed as Minister of State in the Department of Further and Higher Education.
Sligo-Leitrim TD Marian Harkin said she was 'delighted' to take on her new role at the department, in which she will have special responsibility for further education, apprenticeship, construction, and climate skills.
It comes following President Michael D Higgins' approval of legislation which will enable the new Minister of State to take up office from next Tuesday.
In a statement issued to Shannonside FM, Harkin explained that while it is a great honour to be appointed to ministerial office, she remains 'fully committed' to continuing to represent her constituents in the Dáil.
