A local TD is praising healthcare staff at GP services across Longford following their work in using up a major misallocation of vaccines delivered by the HSE last week.
Longford GP Dr. Syed Ali received 240 vials of the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday following a reported order of 40 vials, with just 72 hours to see them administered before they expired.
GP surgeries from across the region including Athlone and Mullingar contributed staff and time in order to use the massive surplus of Pfizer vaccines.
The incident saw 100s of people queue in the town over the weekend in order to receive a dose, with estimates putting close to 40 per cent of the population in Longford now having received their first dose of a vaccine.
Local GPs are calling on the HSE to take responsibility for the misallocation and officially recognize the work involved in seeing every dose used before it expired.
