A local TD has raised the case of a woman trapped in Gaza in a recent Dáil meeting. 74-year-old Najwa Alsabbagh remains under bombardment in the Israeli invasion of Gaza, eight months after having been granted a visa to travel to Ireland. Her daughter Sherin Alsabbagh, who is an English tutor and interpreter living in Ballaghaderreen, has been pleading for help to get her mother out of the conflict.
Sherin is calling for arrangements to be made for her mother to travel with children who are being brought to Ireland from Gaza. Speaking in the Dáil earlier in the week, Roscommon-Galway TD Claire Kerrane described the horror of Najwa's current living conditions:
