Local TD Michael Fitzmaurice has refused to rule out running in the European elections this year. The Roscommon Galway TD confirmed today that he has joined one of Ireland's newest political parties; Independent Ireland. Set up in late 2023 by the two Munster TD's, the party bills itself as dedicated to shaping an Ireland that prioritises the well being of individuals, families and communities.
He had been discussing the move over the last year with Independent TDs Michael Collins and Richard O’Donoghue. Deputy Fitzmaurice said he had examined the political landscape over the past 12 months, and said he would either leave politics or set up a new party. Speaking to Shannonside, however, Deputy Fitzmaurice hinted that a run for Europe could be on the cards:
