Carrick-on-Shannon badly needs a bypass to survive as a regional town, according to a Fine Gael TD.
The project will go to planning next year and it's hoped it will be complete by around 2030.
There are huge traffic backlogs at weekends around Cortober, as hundreds of cars cross the Shannon.

Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says he's confident the bypass will go ahead as planned.
