Local TD says consultation is crucial over possibility of IPAS centre in Leitrim

Local residents are concerned that the proposal could hurt tourism and the local economy.

A newly-appointed Minister of State believes consultation will be of key importance when discussing the possibility of developing an IPAS centre in Leitrim Villlage.
Sligo-Leitrim TD Marian Harkin has been commenting on the recent public meeting which saw over 100 people voice their concerns about the conversion of the Leitrim Marina Hotel into a centre for asylum seekers.

The hotel had been closed since the pandemic and was later used to accommodate a number of Ukrainian refugees.
Local residents are concerned that the proposal could hurt tourism and the local economy.
Independent Marian Harkin, who was officially appointed as Minister of State in the Department of Further and Higher Education on Friday, says residents need to be consulted before the plan goes ahead:
