A newly-appointed Minister of State believes consultation will be of key importance when discussing the possibility of developing an IPAS centre in Leitrim Villlage.
Sligo-Leitrim TD Marian Harkin has been commenting on the recent public meeting which saw over 100 people voice their concerns about the conversion of the Leitrim Marina Hotel into a centre for asylum seekers.
The hotel had been closed since the pandemic and was later used to accommodate a number of Ukrainian refugees.
Local residents are concerned that the proposal could hurt tourism and the local economy.
